Strategies and challenges in publishing in Scopus-indexed journals

UNAIR NEWS – The Doctoral Accounting Student Association (HIMAPDIA) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) hosted another session of its Tips, Tricks & Share (TTS) Series 3 webinar. Held virtually on Thursday, March 20, 2025, the discussion focused on the perspectives of editors and reviewers from prestigious Scopus-indexed journals.

The HIMAPDIA UNAIR Chairperson, Saarce Elsye Hatane, SE, MBA, CA, AK, CMA, emphasized that the TTS Series is a regularly scheduled initiative designed to help students understand the intricacies of publishing in international journals. The program adopts a collaborative learning approach, featuring guest speakers from various backgrounds, including students, alumni, academics, and researchers.

“This program is aimed at enhancing students’ capacity for academic publishing across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. We invite speakers with extensive experience in the editorial and publication processes of high-impact journals,” she explained.

The doctoral candidate in Accounting UNAIR, highlighted that publishing in top-tier international journals is a key priority of the TTS Series, aligning with UNAIR’s strategic objectives and institutional roadmap.

“High-quality academic publications are essential for strengthening an institution’s global reputation and achieving greater academic distinction,” noted Hatane, who also serves as an editor and reviewer for multiple Q1 and Q2 Scopus-indexed journals.

She further elaborated on the growing pressure on students to publish in reputable journals, as Scopus-indexed publications are widely recognized as a key indicator of research excellence.

“The stringent peer-review process ensures that every published article makes a meaningful scholarly contribution while adhering to strict ethical research standards,” added Hatane, who also heads the Accounting Program at the School of Business & Management, Petra Christian University.

This webinar provided students with valuable insights into how editors and reviewers evaluate research submissions. Additionally, the session offered practical strategies for crafting manuscripts that meet the high standards of internationally recognized journals.
