UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held an employer meeting titled Building Sustainable and Impactful Strategic Collaboration Together on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Hotel Morazen Surabaya. The event brought together alumni, industry stakeholders, government institutions, and partner organizations to strengthen collaboration between academia and the fisheries sector.
Strengthening academic–industry synergy
In her opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Endang Dewi Masithah Ir MP, Dean of FPK UNAIR, stressed that collaboration between universities and stakeholders plays a crucial role in producing graduates who are adaptable to the evolving demands of the workforce. The forum also served as a platform to present faculty developments and gather input from external partners.
“This event invites industry stakeholders and education policymakers to revisit FPK’s vision, mission, and curriculum. We hope to gain feedback that will help improve the quality of our academic system and ensure its relevance to industry needs,” Prof. Masithah said.
A representative of the Career Center and Alumni Impact Unit (PKKA) of UNAIR also presented on employer reputation, emphasizing the importance of institutional credibility in enhancing graduate competitiveness. The unit connects students, alumni, and industry to better prepare graduates for the workforce while strengthening professional networks.
Promoting sustainable collaboration
Meanwhile, Vice Dean III Annur Ahadi Abdillah SPi MSi PhD, outlined the faculty’s achievements and student development programs. He explained that the meeting aimed to strengthen communication with stakeholders, gather feedback on academic systems and facilities, and expand opportunities for collaboration.
During the interactive discussion session, alumni and stakeholders were invited to evaluate the quality of FPK graduates. Several key recommendations emerged, including aligning the curriculum more closely with industry needs, expanding practical learning through internship programs, and strengthening students’ soft skills.
The faculty expects the meeting to lead to tangible outcomes in the near future. “We hope this collaboration will result in concrete initiatives, such as involving industry professionals as training facilitators and partners in developing student competencies. This will help produce competitive graduates supported by strong and sustainable alumni and employer networks,” Prof. Masithah concluded.
