UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to demonstrate its excellence as one of Indonesia’s top universities. Two professors from UNAIR’s Faculty of Public Health (FKM) have been ranked among the world’s top 2 percent of researchers by Stanford University and Elsevier.
The recognition was awarded to FKM Dean, Prof. Dr. Santi Martini, dr., M.Kes., and Prof. Dr. Ratna Dwi Wulandari, SKM, M.Kes. These two professors have focused on different areas of public health research.
Prof. Martini’s research primarily focuses on communicable and non-communicable diseases. “Most of my publications revolve around diseases, both infectious and non-infectious. I’ve also published studies on how smoke-free regulations impact disease incidence in certain regions,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Prof. Wulandari’s research interests lie in health planning and evaluation, as well as the management of health programs and services. “My research largely highlights factors influencing the success of health programs, which serve as a foundation for formulating strategies and policies to improve program outcomes,” she said.
Securing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
For researchers, earning Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a significant achievement, reflecting recognition of their contributions by relevant institutions. Both professors have developed innovations that have earned IPR.
Prof. Wulandari shared with UNAIR NEWS that she has secured two IPRs over the past eight years and plans to apply for more from her recent works, including her inaugural lecture as a professor.
“I’ve obtained two IPRs, awarded around eight years ago. I am planning to obtain more IPRs for some of my recent publications, with my professor’s oration manuscript on the ‘Customer Lifetime Journey’ in implementing Integrated Primary Healthcare (ILP) being a priority,” she said.
Prof. Martini also mentioned that she holds several IPRs through collaborative efforts. One such innovation, developed with her team at FKM UNAIR, is an application designed to help people quit smoking.
“Although I don’t have personal IPRs yet, I have worked with a team on innovations like a smoking cessation app,” she noted.
UNAIR’s support for research and innovation
Institutional support is crucial to the success of academics. Prof. Wulandari emphasized that UNAIR has played an important role in promoting research and publication among its faculty.
“The availability of numerous research schemes, along with sufficient publication incentives, motivates all lecturers to be more active in conducting research and publishing their findings,” she said.
Prof. Martini added that academics have a duty to conduct research that benefits society, in addition to their teaching responsibilities.
“As academics or lecturers, our responsibility extends beyond teaching to conducting research. It’s not just about personal achievement through publications; the more significant goal is ensuring that our research positively impacts the community and improves people’s quality of life,” she concluded.
