UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to strengthen its commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by weaving them into its research agenda, community engagement efforts, and global partnerships. This commitment was underscored through the ICATAM & IPACT 2025 international seminar, held on Friday (Sept 26, 2025) at the Candradimuka Hall, Nano Building, MERR-C Campus.
Representing the university at the forum, Dian Ekowati, SE., M.Si., M.AppCom(OrgCh), Ph.D., Head of the Planning and Development Board (BPP), highlighted the importance of multisector collaboration in addressing today’s global challenges.
Research achievements
UNAIR has recorded notable progress in international publications linked to the SDGs. In particular, the university ranks among the top 3% globally for SDG 1 (No Poverty) publications. UNAIR also maintains active partnerships with institutions from low- and middle-income countries.
“Integrating the SDGs into research is not just about publication numbers. It is about ensuring that our research provides real, practical solutions for society and the world,” she explained. She also noted UNAIR’s tangible SDG initiatives, including the Ksatria Airlangga Hospital Ship (RSKKA), which has served 86 islands, aligning with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
UNAIR also supports SDG 5: Gender Equality through childcare services and student mentoring at Griya Khadijah. Additionally, the university helps communities by improving clean water access and waste management systems on Gili Iyang Island, initiatives that support SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
“Collaboration is not about the number of partners, but about building cooperation that is fair, inclusive, and impactful. The most complex problems demand the most collaborative solutions,” she said.
Integrating SDGs
UNAIR has embedded the SDGs across its curriculum, governance practices, and community programs. Initiatives such as the Belajar Bersama Komunitas (BBK) service program, the SDGs Festival, and MSME empowerment efforts are designed to create direct social impact. Within campus operations, UNAIR continues to promote green initiatives, renewable energy adoption, and inclusive policy development.
In closing, she underscored UNAIR’s broader role in the global community. “UNAIR must position itself not only as a world-class university, but as an institution that contributes to solving the global challenges facing humanity,” she concluded.
