UNAIR adds one more Scopus-indexed scientific journal

UNAIR NEWS – Throughout 2022 Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made various achievements. One of the latest achievements was UNAIR’s scientific journal, The Indonesian Journal of Public Health from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM), was successfully indexed by Scopus on Tuesday (20/12/2022). This journal started to publish scientific journals in 2004.

The FKM’s journal indexing has increased the number of UNAIR scientific journals indexed by Scopus. “With the addition of FKM’s journal, UNAIR currently has five Scopus-indexed journals,” said Prof. Hery Purnobasuki MSi PhD, Head of the Institute for Innovation, Journal Development, Publishing and Intellectual Property Rights (LIPJPHKI) UNAIR.

The five journals include the Asian Journal of Accounting Research (AJAR) from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Scientific Journal of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs from the Faculty of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Ners Journal from the Faculty of Nursing, Dental Journal from the Faculty of Dental Medicine, and the scientific journal from FKM UNAIR.

“Hopefully, two journals in process and three additional scientific journals will be indexed by Scopus next year,” said Prof. Hery.

Scientific journal submission

As a matter of fact, the process of a scientific journal to be indexed by Scopus is not easy. “Scopus is an international level index. In terms of scientific journals, this is the summit,” said Prof. Hery.

Scientific journals are submitted online, but not all submitted scientific journals are successfully indexed by Scopus. Failure is possible in this case. After submitting the journal, Scopus will send a review and an embargo when the scientific journal does not meet the requirements.

“Improvement of scientific journals cannot be done quickly, journal publishers are given one or two years for it,” explained Prof. Hery.

Various benefits

One of the benefits of Scopus-indexed scientific journals is that they open up wider opportunities for publishers to collaborate with various domestic and foreign partners.

“If Scopus index it, scientific journals can be read by people worldwide. It is possible if, for example, there are foreign academics who read them and are interested and offer cooperation,” he concluded. (*)
