UNAIR NEWS – Ahmad Eko Wibowo, an alumnus of Faculty of Nursing (FKp) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) and a current nursing staff at Jember Pulmonary Hospital, earned second place at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Indonesian Nurse Manager Association (HPMI). The national-level competition, held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, serves as a prestigious platform for nurse managers across the country to present innovations in nursing service systems and management.

In the event, Wibowo presented an innovation titled SI-CAKEP RSPJ (Sistem Implementasi Clinical Pathway), which aims to support quality control and cost-efficiency in nursing services. His proposal incorporated a nurse well-being framework and was selected as one of the top three out of 19 submissions that passed national selection. Competing entries included submissions from leading institutions such as RSPAD Gatot Subroto and RSCM.

“Out of 19 nominees, I was fortunate to be among the top three,” said Wibowo. “Honestly, I was surprised. I felt intimidated at first because many prominent hospitals were participating. But I’m grateful to have placed second.”

SI-CAKEP is a structured approach to implementing Clinical Pathways as tools for maintaining quality standards and reducing hospital costs. Wibowo’s concept highlights how Clinical Pathways can positively impact nurse well-being—measured not just financially, but also in terms of emotional security, workplace safety, and professional empowerment.

The innovation also adopts the Transforming Care at the Bedside approach, which repositions nurses beyond their clinical duties to act as emotional partners for their patients. “We’re entering a transformative phase in nursing services. Nurses must provide precise clinical care, but also be emotionally present for their patients,” Wibowo said.

His Clinical Pathway model aligns with the performance indicators found in the Internal Service Information System (SIPI), as outlined in Presidential Instruction No. 1 of 2023. These standards are used to measure quality and efficiency, particularly in relation to BPJS claims and Universal Health Coverage (UHC). SI-CAKEP demonstrates that precise and empathetic nursing care management can significantly improve healthcare worker welfare while advancing institutional success.

The competition featured participants from hospitals across Indonesia, from Banda Aceh to Sulawesi. Wibowo represented Jember Pulmonary Hospital, which operates under the East Java Provincial Health Office. He faced considerable challenges in preparing for the event, particularly due to time constraints.

“I had very little time to write my proposal and prepare for the trip. I couldn’t simply leave work, so I left Friday night and had to present my work Saturday morning,” he recalled. Despite the tight schedule, Wibowo successfully completed the competition and earned national recognition for his efforts.
