UNAIR and DAAD Seminar discusses study opportunities in Germany

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga, through Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), collaborated with DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) to hold a seminar titled “Research Landscape and Funding Opportunities in Germany.” The seminar took place in the Kahuripan Room of the MERR-C Campus Management Office Building on Friday, May 12, 2023.

The seminar was attended by Dr. Guido Schnieders, Director of DAAD; Dina Septiani B Comm MComm PhD, Vice Director of Airlangga Global Engagement; Annisa Fitria, Head of Research Science and Technology Section, German Embassy in Jakarta; and Dr. rer. nat. Maria Lucia Ardhani DL MPharm Sci, a lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga.

Scope of research

Annisa explained that Germany currently offers significant opportunities for international research. In light of this, she elaborated on several focal points that are the main segments of ongoing research in Germany.

“There are several research focal points, including marine research and technology, energy research and technology, space research and technology, earth sciences, social sciences and humanities, and science and technology as the basis for developing information and scientific documentation industries,” expressed Annisa.

Offering scholarship opportunities

Guido explained that the German-Indonesian collaboration also benefits students and lecturers who wish to pursue studies and research in Germany. It is one of the goals of DAAD to accommodate the needs of international academic cooperation.

“We welcome students and lecturers in Indonesia who wish to pursue higher education in Germany. In this collaboration, we aim to provide opportunities for obtaining education and scholarships at universities of their choice in Germany,” explained Guido.

Memorable learning experiences

Maria shared her experience studying Pharmaceutical Science at Freie Universitat Berlin in Germany. She provided a testimonial as a lecturer who pursued studies in Germany with funding from the DAAD Scholarship.

Furthermore, Maria added that such opportunities can lead to a deeper understanding of the field of study she was researching. She also encouraged the audience to make the most of scholarship opportunities for studying abroad to gain a global understanding.

“The diverse exploration opportunities in the field of study at the University of Berlin, Germany, serves as a foundation for lecturers and researchers,” explained Maria. (*)
