UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga, in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment, launched the Strengthening the Social Security Ecosystem Through Education initiative. The program was designed to address low literacy levels and limited public understanding of social protection. The event, held Thursday (Aug. 14, 2025) at Garuda Mukti Hall, was attended by Minister Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, UNAIR leaders, and rectors from several universities.
Emphasizing education
In his remarks, UNAIR Rector Prof. Madyan said it was an honor to welcome the Coordinating Minister. He stressed the importance of introducing health and employment-based social security education early, beginning with school and madrasa students and continuing through higher education.
“Social security is a cornerstone of building a fair and prosperous nation. But its implementation still requires broad support, including from the academic community,” Prof. Madyan said.

Role of universities
As an educational institution, UNAIR plays a strategic role in equipping students with policy knowledge and practical skills related to social security. Courses such as Health Communication and Basic Health Services prepare students to engage directly with communities.
UNAIR also integrates entrepreneurship and character development into its Basic Learning curriculum. Classes like Business Innovation and Collaboration expose students to entrepreneurship, supporting UNAIR’s mission to become a World-Class Entrepreneurial University.
“Our goal is to produce graduates who are innovative, independent, and solution-oriented,” he added.
Prof. Madyan said the launch is expected to strengthen collaboration between academia and government, with benefits reaching all Indonesians.
“Together, let us build outstanding human resources capable of ensuring that Indonesia’s social security system functions effectively and delivers maximum benefit to the people,” he concluded.
