UNAIR NEWS – The ANRIL Team from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) secured second place at the 16th Calculus Cup, hosted by Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ). This national competition brought together 35 teams from 21 universities across Indonesia, with each team made up of three participants.
Competitive multi-stage selection process
Reaching the winner’s podium required considerable effort. The competition consisted of four stages: preliminary rounds one and two, semifinals, and finals. Each stage featured questions ranging from easy to highly challenging, requiring sharp strategy and thorough preparation. The ANRIL Team advanced through every phase successfully, proving both their teamwork and strong foundation in mathematics.
The final round was split into two sections: a game segment and the main problem-solving challenge. The game portion determined the order in which teams presented their solutions. Each team had 15 minutes to work through the main problem, followed by a 5-minute presentation before a panel of three judges. In the finals, the ANRIL Team competed against strong contenders from Universitas Indonesia and the Institute of Science and Technology Bandung, ultimately delivering a strong performance that earned them the runner-up position.
Intensive, disciplined preparation
The ANRIL Team, Aprilia Cristy Rajagukguk, Nazarisma Trisha Arifani, and Arsyid Naufal Adilah, prepared with notable discipline. Even as the training period overlapped with midterm exams at UNAIR, the team members balanced their study schedules across both demands. Once exams concluded, they met regularly in the campus library to review material, summarize key concepts, and practice questions from past competitions and the official guide. Their focused preparations spanned seven days, as only eight days separated the end of midterms from the final competition.
They departed for Jakarta by train on the night of October 16 and arrived the next day. After a brief breakfast, they continued studying and reviewing material. That evening, they resumed their group study session, finalizing their strategies and task distribution ahead of the competition.
According to Arifani, who represented the team, their success was the result of dedication and strong collaboration. “We’re extremely grateful for this achievement. The intensive preparation, solid teamwork, and continuous support for one another helped us get through every stage of the competition,” she said.
The ANRIL Team’s accomplishment reflects their commitment, discipline, and unity in competing at the national level. Their strong finish not only brings recognition to Universitas Airlangga but also shows how thorough preparation and cohesive teamwork can lead to exceptional outcomes.
