UNAIR NEWS – The Universitas Airlangga Student Choir (PSUA) secured two major wins on the international stage, bringing home gold medals from the Karangturi International Choir Competition (KICC). The event, hosted by Karangturi School, took place in Semarang from Wednesday to Saturday (Nov. 12–15, 2025). Led by Club Head Gavia Ayala Pasaribu from FISIP and team leader Aretha Rut Novenia Sitorus from FPK, PSUA delivered an impressive performance that stood out among strong global competitors.

In the Mixed Choir category, PSUA earned a gold medal with a score of 84.25 and placed as the 3rd runner-up. In the Equal Voices category, the team also claimed a gold medal, finishing as 1st runner-up with a score of 83.33.

A deep sense of pride and a desire to elevate their university’s reputation became the main source of motivation for the team. Their determination was also fueled by their achievement in Malaysia the previous year, which left a lasting sense of ambition. “We want PSUA to be known as an organization capable of carrying UNAIR’s name to both national and international arenas,” Pasaribu said.

The team followed an intensive preparation schedule that included three weekly rehearsals, fundraising activities, and a pre-competition concert on October 18. As the departure date neared, practice sessions increased significantly, eventually taking place almost every day. Despite obstacles such as coordinating members’ schedules and managing pre-performance stress, PSUA remained united and committed throughout the process.

The high-pressure atmosphere at the competition did not stop them from delivering a strong performance. “When the day finally came, the team didn’t just bring their equipment. They carried months of hard work and full readiness for the stage,” Pasaribu recalled.

Judges praised the choir’s energy, control, and dynamic expression, especially in technically demanding pieces such as The Pilgrim Soul and Søk Herren. “From the evaluation sheet, the judges highlighted our strong energy and control on stage,” she added.

Support from their coach, Bagus Syafrieza, as well as facilities provided by the university through Airlangga Travel, also contributed significantly to their success. “We see this victory as a symbol of trust from everyone involved—from the university, mentors, parents, coaches, and alumni. Without their support, we wouldn’t be here,” Pasaribu said.

Speaking on behalf of PSUA, Pasaribu hopes that this accomplishment inspires future members. Their goal is not only to continue earning achievements but also to build a reputation for professionalism and heartfelt performances on every stage they step onto.
