UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), through its Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), recently collaborated with Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, and NEAS Quality Assurance in Education and Training to conduct a one-day workshop titled Inspiring for Internationalization: From Quality English Language Teaching Delivery to English Medium Instruction. Supported by the ASEAN University Network (AUN), the workshop focused on enhancing standards in English-language teaching and internationalized academic programs.
Held on November 13, 2024, at the Majapahit Auditorium in ASEEC Tower, UNAIR’s Dharmawangsa-B Campus, the event hosted Anthony Clark, Deputy Head of the Australian Consulate General in Surabaya, as well as UNAIR’s Vice Rector for Academic, Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto.
Ensuring quality in English-Language Programs
As demand grows for English-medium academic programs, ensuring quality in English-language teaching has become essential. The workshop aimed to support participants—both those currently managing English-language programs and those planning to introduce them—in developing strategies to uphold high instructional standards.
Speakers at the workshop included Adam Kilburn, CEO of NEAS Australia, Assoc. Prof. Pamela Humphrey, Director of the EMI Centre at Macquarie University, and David Segoh, SS MEd PhD, an education expert from UNAIR. They shared a range of methods and insights on effective English-language instruction and maintaining program quality.
Opening remarks from UNAIR Vice Rector
Prof. Lukiswanto expressed his pride in collaborating with Australian universities and training experts who specialize in English-language education. Reflecting UNAIR’s commitment to its tri dharma principles, he noted that UNAIR is well-prepared to support English-medium instruction to strengthen international academic standards.
“UNAIR strives to provide the right platforms to elevate our academic community to an international standard. This collaboration is invaluable in enhancing our services to the academic community, and this workshop serves as a significant step in reinforcing educational ties between our institutions,” Prof. Lukiswanto remarked in his opening address.
In conclusion, Prof. Lukiswanto voiced his hope that this partnership would mark a pivotal step forward in education, research, and community engagement.
