UNAIR continues relief efforts, expands direct support for disaster-affected communities and students in Sumatra and Aceh

UNAIR NEWSUniversitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is continuing its relief efforts for students and communities affected by disasters in Sumatra and Aceh, reinforcing its commitment to providing sustained and comprehensive support. The initiative reflects UNAIR’s ongoing response to the severe flooding that has struck several areas across the two regions.

Through its Social Fund Management Center (PUSPAS), UNAIR has carried out a series of structured post-disaster response and recovery programs, engaging the broader academic community and relevant partners. PUSPAS Head Dr. Wisudanto, SE, MMCFP, said he is confident that all donations collected from the public have been distributed responsibly.

“We would like to express our deepest appreciation to all donors and members of the academic community who have contributed to post-disaster recovery efforts in Sumatra and Aceh. The donations entrusted to PUSPAS UNAIR have, insyaallah, helped ease the burden on affected communities, and we have ensured that they are distributed in an effective and efficient manner,” he said.

Aid distribution has been carefully structured to ensure it reaches those most in need, through close coordination with UNAIR’s Institute for Sustainable Community Service (LPMB). The funds collected are managed professionally and channeled through various on-site programs led by LPMB and UNAIR’s Disaster Emergency Response Team.

“In implementation, we work hand in hand with LPMB, which operates directly in the affected areas, to ensure assistance is appropriate and responsive to local conditions. The funds are then allocated and distributed by LPMB and the Universitas Airlangga Disaster Emergency Response Team through programs carried out directly in the field,” he explained.

UNAIR’s commitment is also evident in its targeted assistance for students affected by the disasters. This support includes living expenses, tuition fee (UKT) relief, and other forms of assistance tailored to students’ needs.

“We collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including LPMB, UNAIR faculties, the UNAIR Alumni Association (IKA UNAIR), and the Student Executive Board (BEM). Coordination and data verification are conducted directly through the Directorate of Academic Affairs, the Directorate of Student Affairs, and BEM to ensure the accuracy of aid recipients,” he said.

Transparency and accountability remain central to the management of donations. PUSPAS UNAIR regularly shares updates through its social media platforms to optimize fundraising and ensure clear communication regarding aid distribution. “We continue to provide information so that students can contact us and submit assistance requests based on their individual needs. Our free meal program is also still ongoing,” he said.

He added that UNAIR hopes this spirit of collective action will continue and that information about donation initiatives will reach a wider audience. “We extend our sincere thanks for all forms of participation, material contributions, and moral support. God willing, every trust placed in us will be managed with accountability and professionalism to deliver the greatest possible benefit to those who need it most,” he concluded.
