UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Law (FH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made another outstanding achievement. Its overall rank at the Asian and global level according to the Scimago Institution Rankings (SIR) has improved.
In 2022 and 2023, FH UNAIR held positions at #217 and #202, respectively. FH UNAIR is ranked #17 in Asia and #104 in the world ranking in the Overall Rank Law Schools 2024 version of SIR this time. This ranking also makes FH UNAIR the best law faculty in Indonesia.
According to the Dean of FH UNAIR, Iman Prihandono SH MH LLM PhD, FH UNAIR did not anticipate another ranking improvement. “Since 2022, we have been indexed by Scimago at #217, then in 2022 to 2023, it became #202, and this year it reached #104. We didn’t expect such a significant ranking improvement,” said Iman.
Scimago assessment
Iman explained that the ranking improvement according to Scimago is based on several assessment indicators. “This year Scimago has changed its evaluation points. From research, innovation, and societal impact, it is divided into each assessment point,” he said.
Apart from these three assessment points, there has been an increase in the number of publications. At least 60 research studies by lecturers, students and foreign partners (guest lecturers, adjunct professors) have been indexed by Scopus. FH UNAIR also experienced a rapid increase in journal publications, up to 60 in total. This may have contributed to the improved FH UNAIR’s ranking, even though the assessment indicators are not solely based on research,” he explained.
FH UNAIR’s research and community service which focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also affected this achievement. “We do have research and community service corridors: on law and technology, SDGs, and renewable energy. So, if we calculated 60 research and community service, we correlate with SDGs and societal impact,” continued Iman.
Expectation
From this achievement, Iman hopes that FH UNAIR can continue to improve its ranking and maintain its position among the world’s best law faculties. Moreover, FH UNAIR will soon have new supporting facilities. “We hope that FH UNAIR will be even better in the future. With the addition of new buildings, we hope the academic atmosphere will improve, students can have good discussions, publications will be quicker, and be able to create other innovations,” he stated.
In terms of community service and research, FH UNAIR is expected to increase cooperation with many institutions and provide guidance to the community. Furthermore, FH UNAIR will also continue to implement the SMART UNAIR strategy to maintain its position as the best law faculty. “We will work on SMART UNAIR and achieve the best results in ranking improvement we aim for,” concluded Iman.
