UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga recently hosted the 8th International Conference for Economics & Business and International Community Service (ICEB), themed Sustainability in Social and Economic Community. The hybrid-format conference took place both online via Zoom and in-person at the KRT Fadjar Notonegoro Hall on UNAIR’s Dharmawangsa-B Campus, from Wednesday to Thursday (October 30-31, 2024). Participants included academics and industry professionals from several countries.
FEB organized this year’s ICEB in collaboration with eight other Indonesian universities. Dean of FEB, Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, SE, MSi, Ak, explained that the event offered a range of activities. “The program includes a PhD colloquium, research and report paper presentations, as well as community development and international community service,” Prof. Agustia noted.
Prof. Agustia highlighted that this year’s conference also engaged small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in East Java. Researchers offered support to SME owners in applying research findings to improve their business practices. Beyond fostering academic research, Prof. Agustia hopes that universities will actively contribute to society through initiatives like this.
Role of education in Sustainable Economics
On the first day of the conference, Wednesday (October 30, 2024), UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE, MT, Ak, CA delivered the keynote speech, exploring the role of education and leadership in promoting sustainable economic growth. Prof. Nasih emphasized that leaders in both the economic and educational sectors must advocate sustainable practices to ensure the long-term success of the global economy.
Prof. Nasih underscored the need for a stable, inclusive global economy and affirmed that sustainability is no longer just a moral choice in business but a necessity. “Today, sustainability is not merely a moral choice in business; it has become a necessity,” he remarked.

In his speech, Prof. Nasih also highlighted UNAIR’s commitment to sustainable economics through education, research, innovation, and collaboration with industry. He stressed that global partnerships are essential for achieving a sustainable future, and UNAIR has been working with local and international partners toward this goal.
UNAIR is focused on advancing green technology and promoting sustainable business practices as part of its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Prof. Nasih noted that the partnership between business and education is crucial for fostering sustainability in the future.
