UNAIR FIB lecturer participates in international conference and gives guest lectures at several universities in India

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made another international achievement. A lecturer of the Faculty of Humanities (FIB) UNAIR, Dewi Meyrasyawati SS MA MHum PhD participated in an international conference and gave guest lectures at several well-known universities in India. This activity starts from Monday, August 21, 2023, to Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Since her arrival in India on Monday, August 21, 2023, Dewi had the opportunity to give a guest lecture entitled Achieving Excellent in Morality. This guest lecture was also attended by master’s and doctoral students at GL Bajaj Institute of Management and Research Noida (UP ).

Furthermore, Dewi also presented her research entitled Being a Muslim woman influencer on Instagram: Self-Branding and Self-Marketing on controversial Hijab style at the Conference on Intergroup Inequality in Indian Society. The conference by the Association of Academics for Social Justice took place at the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore, India. It was held from Tuesday, August 22, 2023, to Thursday, August 25, 2023.

Dewi did not only speak at the conference. The lecturer of FIB UNAIR also received several invitations as guest lecture at various institutions in India. On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, Dewi spoke about Gender and Social Media for the Department of Political Science at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi.

Attend cultural festival

Furthermore, Dewi also received an invitation to attend the Indian cultural festival at the International Cultural Center, Delhi, on Saturday, September 1, 2023. It is an arts festival that presents a dance about women’s empowerment. Some academics, lawyers, bureaucrats, historians, ministerial advisors, and diplomats from Korean and American embassies were also present to enliven the event.

In this case, they performed the typical North Indian Kathak dance. The moral message is that women must be respected by men. Furthermore, they also combine Bihari and Keshav Das poetry in 16th century Hindi to present Swadheenpatika Nayika – Radha , who represents Indian heroine in arts and philosophy.

Dewi continued her agenda by giving guest lectures on two universities. On Monday, September 4, 2023, at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh and Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Sarojini Naidu Center for Women Studies (SNCWS), Delhi.

The FIB lecturer presented Hijab Practices of Muslim Women in Their Everyday Lives at AMU. Meanwhile, in a guest lecture at SNCWS, she presented Exploring Indonesian Women Writers: A Dive into the World of Indonesian Literature, Spotlighting the Incredible Contributions of Women Writers.

Expanding network

The FIB UNAIR lecturer also took advantage of her venture to meet with professors and build up UNAIR network with various institutions in several Indian universities, such as JMI DelhiJawaharlal Nehru Delhi University (JNU), and Vardhman Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital.

“On this occasion I also visited the Indonesian Embassy in India. I expressed my aspirations regarding collaboration between the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and various other faculties at UNAIR with various universities in India. “They all support this program and are waiting for the continuation of the MoU between UNAIR and Higher Education Institutions in India,” said Dewi.

“This is also in line with UNAIR’s internationalization program and the inauguration of AIIOC ( Airlangga Institute of Indian Ocean Crossroads ) last May. “I hope this collaboration can be realized soon,” concluded Dewi at the end of the interview session. (*)
