UNAIR NEWS – Two students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) took part in a short mobility program at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This activity will take place from October 30, 2023 to November 17, 2023.

Rana Zharifah Zahra Asmara and Ni Luh Putu Sita Savitri, outbound students, admitted that they were following this program for their research. Both of them are part of the research team on Leptospira bacteria in the Exact Research Student Creativity Program (PKM-RE) 2023.

Universiti Putra Malaysia is famous for its excellent academic development, especially in the field of Veterinary Medicine. Rana chose UPM as a place to study because of the availability of research facilities that support her research.

“Because it has good research facilities, especially the Faculty of Medicine which is one of the faculties with a laboratory facility specifically for leptospirosis,” said Rana on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

Memorable learning

While participating in the short mobility program, Rana and Sita continued their research project on Leptospirosis. For your information, Leptospirosis is a disease caused by Leptospira bacteria.

Therefore, Rana and Sita chose the microbiology department for this short-term study. Rana said that they learned a lot while at UPM.

“We conducted research on Leptospirosis. Furthermore, we also studied microbiological, molecular, leptospira biofilm theory, and of course the diagnosis of leptospirosis, as well as the PCR test,” explained Rana.

It was a memorable experience for Rana. When she learned from the supervisor, she felt at home taking part in this program. Apart from that, continued Rana, there are also several other reasons that support self-development.

“It is a very memorable because it taught me discipline and good management, increased interculturality and language, a new global perspective, and it trained independent and social skills,” said Rana.

In closing, Rana hoped that she could contribute to the renewal of knowledge in the veterinary field, especially in pathology and microbiology. She also tried to implement the knowledge she learned in Indonesia while participating in this program.
