UNAIR FST holds guest lecture on SDGs

UNAIR NEWS – Faculty Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga held a guest lecture on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Kahuripan Hall 300, UNAIR MERR-C Campus. The thought-provoking guest lecture was about the dilemma of sustainability in developing countries. It featured esteemed speaker Prof. Zeev Bohbot from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, who offered practical tools and techniques designed to deepen understanding and foster growth among science and technology students interested in sustainability.

Prof. Bohbot led participants through an engaging exploration of real-world sustainability challenges facing developing nations. Drawing on his extensive expertise in the field, he underscored the importance of addressing the delicate balance between economic development, environmental preservation, and social equity.

“The Game Board Dilemma,” as Prof. Bohbot aptly termed it, provided attendees with invaluable insights into the complexities of sustainable development decision-making. Through interactive discussions and case studies, students gained a nuanced understanding of the trade-offs and compromises inherent in pursuing sustainability goals within resource-constrained contexts.

“This lecture is not merely about theory; it’s about equipping future leaders with the tools and mindset necessary to tackle real-world sustainability challenges,” remarked Prof. Bohbot.

He believes that in an era marked by environmental degradation and social inequality, it is imperative that we empower the next generation to become agents of positive change.

The lecture resonated particularly with science and technology students, who recognized the pivotal role their disciplines play in shaping sustainable solutions. From renewable energy technologies to eco-friendly innovations, participants were inspired to harness their skills and knowledge for the betterment of society and the planet.

“I feel motivated to apply what I’ve learned today to my studies and future career,” shared a student. “From this guest lecture, I know sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a guiding principle that should inform everything we do.”

In the end, the participants are expected to have a renewed commitment to integrating sustainability principles into their academic and professional endeavors. The event underscored the university’s dedication to nurturing responsible global citizens equipped to tackle the pressing challenges of our time. By empowering students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the sustainability dilemmas of the 21st century, UNAIR continues to drive positive change both locally and globally.
