UNAIR NEWS – As a form of care during the holy month of Ramadan, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held an iftar gathering with 1,000 orphans. The event took place at Airlangga Convention Center (ACC), MERR-C Campus, UNAIR, on Friday, March 6, 2026. It was a collaboration between the Universitas Airlangga Social Fund Management Center (PUSPAS) and Yatim Mandiri to bring Ramadan joy to orphaned children.
Message from the Rector
The event was attended by UNAIR Rector Prof Dr Muhammad Madyan SE MSi MFin, vice rectors, deans of faculties at UNAIR, as well as heads of centers and directorates within the university. In his remarks, Prof Madyan encouraged the participants not to feel alone. “Children should not feel alone because many people are praying for your future,” he said.
He also emphasized to all invited guests the importance of sharing, especially during the month of Ramadan. According to him, true happiness does not come from what one possesses but from what one shares with others. Prof Madyan also expressed appreciation to PUSPAS UNAIR for their dedication and hard work in organizing the event.
Donation and partnership report
Head of PUSPAS UNAIR, Dr Wisudanto SE MM CFP ASPM, expressed his gratitude to the donors who supported the event. He conveyed appreciation to donors from both internal and external institutions of UNAIR. According to the report from PUSPAS UNAIR, several donors provided the largest contributions. These included Jamaah Insan Cita with 375 packages, Faculty of Nursing with 162 packages, Faculty of Dental Medicine with 125 packages, Hamba Allah with 100 packages, and Tropical Disease Centre with 55 packages. The donations were distributed to several orphanages in Surabaya and Gresik.

In line with Dr Wisudanto, President Director of Yatim Mandiri, Sugeng Riyadi SE MSi, stated that UNAIR has consistently been present and supportive. According to Riyadi, UNAIR has been a strategic partner of the Yatim Mandiri foundation in community service programs. “We are grateful to UNAIR for partnering with us for the past 20 years,” Riyadi said during his remarks.
The event was not limited to an iftar gathering. It also featured mini games on Islamic knowledge. In addition, there were performances of shalawat Al Banjari by the Al Banjari Al Habsy Assembly, a symbolic donation handover by university leaders, an Islamic sermon by Ustadz Sahid Sumitro, and a creative storytelling session by Kak Fajar Fitro and his puppet Bogo. Participants also had the opportunity to interact with UNAIR leaders through Qur’an memorization challenges and Islamic riddles, with attractive prizes for the winners.
