UNAIR NEWS – As part of the ongoing effort to strengthen the National Teaching Hospital (RSPTN) system for 2026, the Directorate General of Higher Education convened an assistance session for the preparation of the RSPTN Revitalization Program proposal. The event took place on Friday (Nov. 21, 2025) in a hybrid format at UNAIR’s MERR-C Campus. This initiative is designed to position RSPTN facilities as research and innovation ecosystem laboratories capable of advancing cutting-edge science and technology in the health sector.
The Directorate General of Higher Education invited members of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), including Acting Secretary of the Directorate General Prof. Setiawan, Special Advisor to the Minister Prof. Tjitjik Sri Tjahjandarie, and Director of Transformative Learning Strategies and Systems Prof. Ardi Findyartini. Leaders of RSPTN and RSGM under Kemdiktisaintek, representatives from the RSPTN Association, and UNAIR leadership also attended.
Acting Secretary of the Directorate General, Prof. Setiawan, expressed hope that Kemdiktisaintek would continue to support resources needed for RSPTN revitalization. “We hope RSPTN can help advance the PHTC (Best and Fast Results Program) to accelerate the development of specialist programs. At the very least, hospitals that are not yet designated as teaching hospitals can begin preparing,” he said.
He added that the contract signing for this initiative could potentially take place this year to expedite implementation. “We hope the program can begin as early as possible because this initiative is highly strategic and must be accelerated,” he added.
Rector of Universitas Airlangga shares his expectations
UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan SE MSi MFin expressed his respect and gratitude that UNAIR was chosen to host the event. “We thank Kemdiktisaintek for entrusting UNAIR as the national consolidation hub in defining the future of Indonesia’s teaching hospital system,” he said.
Prof. Madyan emphasized that the event reflected a shared commitment to strengthening health education in Indonesia. “Your presence, representing 20 leading higher education institutions and the experts of Kemdiktisaintek, signals our collective national commitment to reinforcing the core pillars of Indonesia’s Academic Health System,” he stated.
The professor from the Faculty of Economics and Business added that the initiative should spark fundamental changes within RSPTN, not only to enhance health care services, but more importantly, to transform the broader role of these institutions.
“We must evolve from merely providing clinical services to becoming full-fledged Research and Innovation Ecosystem Laboratories. Our shared vision is clear: to make RSPTN a crucible for the development, testing, and application of advanced health sciences and technologies,” he explained.
Accelerating RSPTN Revitalization Program
Special Advisor to the Minister, Prof. Tjitjik Sri Tjahjandarie, urged teaching hospitals within public universities to strengthen their self-sufficiency in supporting medical education. “One of the ways to achieve this is by reinforcing RSPTN. And strengthening RSPTN inevitably requires a revitalization program,” she noted.
The professor from UNAIR’s Faculty of Science and Technology added that the revitalization program should progress rapidly so that contracts can be finalized by early January. “We must ensure this process moves forward. RSPTN, both general hospitals and dental hospitals, must commit to collaboration. This program is no longer optional development; it is an urgent priority,” she stressed.
In closing, Prof. Tjahjandarie underscored the importance of collaborative spirit across all institutions to improve the future of health education. “Let us work together to strengthen medical education. This program is a shared responsibility, not only for the Ministry of Health, nor solely for Kemdikti. Everyone has a vital role to play,” she concluded.
