UNAIR NEWS – Being a law student does not limit one’s achievement in the same field. Instead, one could make bright achievements across other fields, like sports, arts, and pageants. Gaining such achievements even gives extra points for mastering other skills to help build the future.
One of the talented law students is Tiara Astri. The third-year Universitas Airlangga student was named Second Representative of East Java Literacy Ambassador 2022.
Literacy goes beyond reading and writing
To UNAIR NEWS, on December 12, 2022, Tiara explained the Literacy Ambassador’s role in inviting young generations to the field of literacy and preservation of ancient manuscripts.
The major she is currently in is related to the title she was awarded, as literacy goes beyond reading and writing. Literacy also means improving self-potentials.
“Literacy is to read the word and the world. There are six basic types: literacy, financial literacy, cultural and citizenship literacy, and other kinds we need to possess,” she said.
Expanding network and experiences
During the selection stage of the 2022 East Java Literacy Ambassador, Tiara gained interesting experience and network. She got to know many people with diverse backgrounds.
“I got to know people from the agency and library. A representative of East Java Literacy Ambassador has a lot of programs to run. Every representative must create a program for the region they represent,” she said.
All the 2022 East Java Literacy Ambassadors will collaborate on several projects.
First batch of East Java Literacy Ambassadors
The Literacy Ambassador selection, which Tiara participated, was the first. Zain Halik initiated the idea, the founder of One Star Management, a talent agency for models, dancers, singers, and masters of ceremonies.
“The selection was held on September 25, 2022, while the Grand Final was held on December 4, 2022, in the Lagoon Avenue Mall, Surabaya,” she said.
Suggestions for fellow students
Tiara further shared some suggestions for fellow students to join such ambassador contests.
“If you’re interested, just go for it. Winning and losing are parts of life. I had my failure one time, It pushed me to upgrade myself for the competitions in the future.”
