UNAIR NEWS – Selected as an advanced scholarship awardee is the biggest blessing a student could hope for. In awarding event of the Indonesia Endowment Funds for Education (LPDP) Universitas Airlangga 2022 August Intake, a sharing session was held on Monday, August 28, 2022.

Pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees is not easy. There are a lot of challenges along the journey. Dede Amarullah, SE MSM awardee and alumnus of master’s program of Management believed that there are five major challenges a student will have to overcome.

First, fluctuating self-motivation. Feeling demotivated is normal. To overcome demotivation, Dude always does what he loves, like enjoying his hobbies, traveling, and doing motivational activities.

Second, health. It frequently becomes another challenge for students. They have to ensure that both physical and mental health are well-maintained.

Third, cultural difference. For some students, cultural and language differences may drive someone to feel culturally estranged. The Eastern man felt the same once. “I felt culturally estranged when I talked with some friends, and they spoke a language I couldn’t understand,” he said.

Fourth, homesickness. Though it is absolutely normal for student nomads, Dude believed that homesickness could be overcome by growing the right mindset and the pure intention to learn.

Fifth, ineffective communication with the supervising lecturer. The language barrier is another challenge in communication between the nomad students and the lecturer.

Five tips for graduating on time

Dude shared five tips to graduate on time. First, finding out the learning system and graduation requirements at the beginning of the semester to prepare a better study plan.

Second, assignment management and learning session. “Those will help set the priorities,” he said.

Those help determine the learning pattern and work on the assignments. Spare five to ten minutes to rest and do what you love so the brain can take a break.

Third, focused on consistency, not intensity. Working on one assignment every night is better than working on multiple assignments simultaneously. Fourth, enjoy the process by being grateful for how far you have come and the blessings Allah has given to you.
