UNAIR NEWS – As an industrial city, the City of Surabaya must be a developed and sustainable city. The Surabaya City Government has made efforts to build Surabaya City into a smart city.
Smart city is a concept of city ecosystem innovation that overcomes various problems and improves the quality of human life and local communities. Six important pillars are needed in building a smart city: smart governance, smart society, smart living, smart economy, smart environment, and smart branding.
Universitas Airlangga Postgraduate School held the 88th Airlangga Forum on Friday, July 1, 2022. The forum’s topic:”Surabaya to Next Level, Work Together to Become Advanced, Humane and Sustainable City,” invited several speakers who are experts in the field of development and governance planning for the City of Surabaya, consisting of Prof. Ir Joni Hermana MScES PhD, M Isa Anshari SPd MPsi, Dr. Ignatia Martha Hendrati SE ME, Andri Arianto MA, Febrina Kusumawati SE MM, and Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco SE MBA PhD.
One of the speakers, Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco, said that the city of Surabaya has been trying to improve its level from a good city to a great city.
“Mr. Mayor (Surabaya, ed )’s vision in his campaign is to be advanced, humane, and sustainable by working together. We as a team of experts (Surabaya City Government, ed ) are trying to turn the Mayor’s vision into a collective ambition so that everyone can contribute to the progress of the City of Surabaya,” said the Director of the Postgraduate School of Universitas Airlangga.
Prof. Badri also explained the benchmark of a city considered as a developed city. Generally, continued Prof. Badri, an advanced city means advancing all levels of society, including the neighborhood unit (RT) and community unit (RW) environments.
“One of the indicators for a developed city is upholding a work program to advance RT and RW so that they are classified as developed regions,” said Prof Badri.
To build the city of Surabaya into an advanced, humane, and sustainable city, cooperation between the Surabaya City Government and people from various elements is needed. For example, the existence of the “Rembuk Bareng (Joint Discussion)” program with the sub-district head to advance the sub-districts in the city of Surabaya as well as training from the Manpower Office to advance the MSME sector (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises). The City of Surabaya is getting closer to the smart city concept by building the community starting from the smallest layer. (*)
