UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has once again marked a significant achievement in digital-based university rankings. In the latest Webometrics report, UNAIR has claimed the third-highest position among Indonesian universities.

Dr. Ardianto S.E., Ak., M.Si., UNAIR’s Vice Rector for Resources, explained that Webometrics rankings are determined by three core metrics: visibility, openness, and excellence.

“Visibility measures how accessible the university’s scientific content is to the public, openness reflects the availability of data and publications, and excellence evaluates the quality of globally recognized research,” he said.

According to Dr. Ardianto, these indicators are interconnected and collectively reflect the university’s impact in disseminating knowledge. “An improved Webometrics ranking typically correlates with higher citation rates and enhanced research reputation,” he added.

Driving innovation and monitoring progress

Rather than resting on its laurels, UNAIR is actively pursuing a higher position in future rankings. To that end, the university has launched several strategic initiatives. One of the key efforts includes the development of a performance monitoring dashboard that tracks UNAIR’s ranking progress in real time.

“This tool allows us to pinpoint our current status and take immediate action if setbacks arise. We’ve also optimized our institutional repository to better support open data access,” Dr. Ardianto explained.

He stressed that all of these efforts are aligned with UNAIR’s broader goal of becoming the top-ranked university in Indonesia. “Our long-term objective is to secure the number one spot nationally while boosting Universitas Airlangga’s international visibility,” he affirmed.

Fostering synergy and collaboration

Yunus Abdul Halim, S.Si., M.Kom., Director of UNAIR’s Directorate of Information Systems and Digitalization (DSID), emphasized that this achievement is the result of collaborative efforts across university departments.

“This accomplishment is a product of strong cooperation across various university units, including LIPJPHKI, PKIP, all faculties, and supporting units. It wouldn’t have been possible without the collective efforts of everyone involved,” said the Webometrics team representative.
