UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has received good news in the field of sustainability and the environment. At UI Greenmetric World University Ranking 2022, UNAIR is ranked 10th nationally.
The award was directly received by Prof. Dr. Moh Nasih SE MT Ak as Rector of UNAIR at the University of Indonesia (UI) Convention Center, Depok Campus on Monday, December 12, 2022.
Improved national and global rank
Globally, UNAIR is ranked 83rd. For comparison, UNAIR was ranked 12th at national level and 139th globally in the global ranking of universities engaged in the sustainable field published in 2021.
Indicator score increase
The UI Greenmetric assessment includes six indicators: regulation and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education and research.
Dr. Karnaji SSos MSi, the Director of Logistics, Security, Order, and Environment, said UNAIR had increased its assessment indicator scores. The total score of 7600 in 2021 has now increased to 8275. This score was also followed by an increase in the energy indicator score by 725 points, the education and research indicators by 50 points.
UNAIR commitment to environment
This achievement is the fruit of UNAIR’s dedication to creating programs focusing on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially on the environment. These programs include increasing the use of renewable energy, treating domestic wastewater, and expanding green open spaces.
Furthermore, UNAIR also focuses on reducing greenhouse gases through a transformation towards environmentally friendly electronic devices, various campaigns, and outreach activities carried out regularly.
UNAIR will continue to improve its contribution to the environment. “We plan to increase solar power, increase the number of electric golf carts, and improve waste management and green open spaces,” explained Dr Karnaji.
Campus community contribution
The lecturer of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) also stated that the improved score could not be separated from the participation of all campus residents in efforts to improve the quality of the environment in the campus area.
This achievement is a reflection of quality improvement in UNAIR’s efforts to manage the environment. “Hopefully, this good news can motivate all academics to continue their best efforts to realize sustainable development,” he hoped. (*)
