UNAIR NEWS – The SDGs Center of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), in partnership with the Surabaya Environmental Office (DLH), hosted a dissemination session for the mid-level Kelurahan Berseri program titled Airlangga Sustainable and Impactful Kampung (Asik) 2025 on Tuesday (Sept 30, 2025). Held at DLH Surabaya Building B, the event encouraged residents to take an active role in creating environmentally conscious, sustainable neighborhoods through a community-based competition.

Advancing sustainability efforts

UNAIR SDGs expert Dr. Nurina Fitriani S. T. emphasized the importance of program continuity to strengthen the university’s real contributions to the public. “We hope this competition becomes a meaningful platform for UNAIR to support local communities,” she said.

She noted that programs like this should continue in the coming years because they reinforce community guidance while motivating residents to consistently care for their surroundings. This, she said, ensures that UNAIR’s engagement does not stop at outreach but evolves into measurable impact at the neighborhood level.

Asik Competition

Dr. Fitriani explained that the Asik Competition serves as a platform for community innovation, collaboration, and inspiration. It is designed not only as a contest but also as a way to strengthen public involvement in environmental protection.

As a show of appreciation, all participants will display their eco-friendly innovations at booths on October 6 at Dharmawangsa Campus B. “This competition is not just about winning. It is a space for residents to create, share, and work together to protect the environment,” she said, highlighting the significance of the exhibition.

Encouragement and guidance

Risnani Pudji Rahayu, S.Agr., Head of a division at the Surabaya Environmental Office, noted that the program helps communities carry out environmental initiatives more easily. “With this program, activities like biopore creation and other efforts become much lighter,” she said.

She added that Surabaya consistently ranks among the top ten Kota Berseri in East Java each year. This achievement, she hopes, will motivate participating neighborhoods to enhance their environmental management and work toward achieving the independent category.
