UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) acted promptly by deploying Health Team 2 to Aceh, one of the areas impacted by a recent disaster. The team was sent directly to the field to provide medical care along with humanitarian assistance for affected residents. The deployment is expected to strengthen emergency response efforts amid limited post-disaster facilities and infrastructure.
Team deployed to the field
Led by First Lieutenant (Navy Medical Corps) dr. Sholefudin, UNAIR Health Team 2 began coordinated operations upon arriving at the disaster location. The team prioritized healthcare services for affected communities regardless of age or background. Close coordination with local authorities was carried out to ensure services were delivered efficiently and effectively. This strategy was intended to speed up medical response efforts in the affected region.
Healthcare personnel conducted medical examinations and administered treatment based on residents’ immediate needs. Medical care focused on health issues arising as a result of the disaster. Services were provided in stages, adjusted to the conditions and circumstances on the ground. Outreach activities were scheduled to reach residents across several affected areas.
Services amid limitations
Throughout the mission, UNAIR Health Team 2 encountered multiple challenges, including limited facilities and difficult terrain. Despite these constraints, the team continued to provide medical services to the fullest extent possible. Each member remained committed to ensuring residents received the care they needed.
In addition to providing treatment, healthcare workers stayed with residents throughout the medical process. The team emphasized direct and empathetic communication to help patients feel calmer during treatment. This approach was part of the team’s commitment to delivering comprehensive healthcare services.
Distribution of basic food aid
In addition to medical assistance, UNAIR Health Team 2 distributed basic food packages to disaster-affected residents. The aid was intended to help meet essential daily needs during the emergency response period. Distribution was conducted directly at the affected locations.
The food distribution was carried out in an orderly manner and prioritized residents most in need. The process was adapted to field conditions to ensure fair and even distribution. The assistance is expected to help reduce the burden faced by communities during the emergency phase.
The deployment of UNAIR Health Team 2 to Aceh highlights the active role of universities in humanitarian response during disasters. Through medical services and aid distribution, UNAIR supports emergency handling and community recovery efforts. This initiative reflects UNAIR’s social responsibility in addressing public needs during times of crisis.
