UNAIR SIKIA exhibits Mount Ijen’s rare medicinal plant products at IPB University

UNAIR NEWS – School of Health and Natural Sciences (SIKIA) students, presented the development of Mount Ijen rare plant community service program at IPB University. The presentation was held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, in the IPB University senate discussion room. Universitas Airlangga delegation competed with 75 university teams in Indonesia at the IPB Darmaga Bogor campus.

Farhaiza Ramadania as UNAIR presenter, mentioned the community service program entitled Conservation of Rare Medicinal Plants from the Mount Ijen through Student Partnerships, Taman Sari Tourism Village, and Ijen Banyuwangi Geopark. The community service was held through the synergy of 15 students of SIKIA UNAIR.

“Our program has been recognized by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, ed) by collaborating with the Ijen Banyuwangi Geopark in its implementation,” said the student from Mojokerto.

The seventh-semester student added that students gained many values in implementing the program, such as increasing experience and knowledge, getting credit conversions, and being able to contribute and compete in prestigious national events and the opportunity to present program at IPB and visitations by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture in Tamansari Village.

Farha said in the long term, her team will establish synergy with the traditional medicine and pharmacy programs at Universitas Airlangga in conducting laboratory tests. Furthermore, SIKIA UNAIR conservation and nature lover community will be established as a platform for program implementation in the future. “So that the usefulness of students can be felt more significantly in the community,” said Farha at the end of the presentation. (*)
