UNAIR NEWS – Stories about college admission have been trending lately. Students face many dilemmas, including in choosing a major. Sociology is often underestimated, especially regarding its job prospects. Then what are the job prospects of the sociology study program and how do you become a high-quality graduate that companies and bureaucracies fight for?

Analysis of community empowerment of the PDTT village ministry, Lisdah Bunga Asih S Sos, shared her story on Saturday, April 23, 2022. According to her, Sociology has broad job prospects, from policy-makers, consultants, analysts and social researchers, public relations, private sector, journalists, to teaching staff.

Furthermore, the alumni of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Department of Sociology, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) also shared how to become one of the best graduates.

Start recording all your activities during studies

Lisdah said that this is useful for students later. It can be one of the capitals when conducting a job interview. “For example, being a member of HIMA or being an MC at an event,” explained Lisdah.

Plan at least a year ahead

Apart from taking notes, planning is no less important. According to Lisdah, she usually writes her resolutions every semester.

Follow all activities to improve self-esteem

“Don’t slack off to develop yourself. Because later, everything you do will come back to you too,” said the 2017 best graduate.

Do the best

Another tip from Lisdah is to always try your best in every activity.  When you can do your best, the results will be the best for you,” she said.

Make the most of your time

She also emphasized that all students make the best use of their time while they are still young. “Make the most of your youth. More experiences, more connections,” she said.

Finally, she advised all students to change their mindset about job prospects and focus on developing themselves for now. “And the most important thing is that you don’t have to think about what you will become later, think now what you can do that can later develop yourself,” concluded Lisdah.
