UNAIR NEWS – The Institute for Journal Development, Publication, and Intellectual Property Rights (LPJPHKI) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) welcomed a visit from the Web of Science (WoS) team – Clarivate Analytics on Tuesday (October 21, 2025). The meeting marked an important step toward strengthening UNAIR’s strategies in research management, academic publishing, journal development, and international collaboration. Held at the LPJPHKI building, the session featured a data-based presentation by the WoS team highlighting UNAIR’s global research standing. They also shared strategic insights to enhance the university’s research quality, visibility, and scientific impact across international platforms.

Head of LPJPHKI, Prof. Ferry Efendi, stated that UNAIR is now focusing on impact-driven research and publication. He emphasized LPJPHKI’s commitment to nurturing a culture of research excellence, ranging from strengthening journal governance to expanding faculty members’ capacity in publishing and patent creation. “Our current focus goes beyond publication output. We want our research to generate real-world benefits for society and reinforce UNAIR’s academic reputation on the global stage,” said Prof. Efendi.

The WoS team further noted that scientific publications are more than academic outputs, they reflect an institution’s research strength and global prestige. Publications within emerging research areas signal that UNAIR’s researchers are actively contributing to cutting-edge discoveries. By prioritizing frontier topics such as antimicrobial resistance, digital health, precision public health, and the One Health framework, UNAIR continues to strengthen its role as a regional leader in health and life science innovation in Southeast Asia.

During the comparative session, the WoS team showcased success stories from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Peking University, both of which have advanced their research impact through strategic collaboration and interdisciplinary initiatives. NUS, for instance, recorded a remarkable rise in its Collaborative Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI), while Peking University achieved a 77% increase in research influence compared to the global average, driven by a well-balanced collaboration strategy between early-career researchers and established international partners.

Through this visit, UNAIR reaffirmed its commitment to building an integrated, collaborative, and forward-looking research ecosystem. LPJPHKI continues to play a central role in harnessing emerging research areas as a new frontier for Indonesia’s scientific and academic progress.
