UNAIR NEWS – Efforts to control TB (Tuberculosis) in East Java continue to be encouraged.  A national webinar forum to commemorate Tuberculosis Day was held on TOSS TB implementation in various sectors to accelerate TB elimination in Indonesia.

The World Tuberculosis Day commemoration event was on Monday, March 20, 2023, held by Bakrie Center Foundation UNAIR. The event was held online and streamed by tvOneNews, ANTV, the Indonesian Ministry of Health, and BCF.

“In the effort to implement TOSS, a commitment is needed. So in this case, the government and health services as the key to implementing prevention in various sectors, must be able to show their commitments,” said Dr. dr. Erlina Burhan MSc Sp P (K), as a panelist at the webinar forum.

The most important commitment, according to dr. Erlina Burhan, is related to budget mobilization in local government funds and strengthening regional bureaucratic resources and infrastructure to prevent tuberculosis.

“What is no less important is a collaboration between sectors, not just health but also non-health, both the legal sector and other community institutions,” explained dr. Erlina Burhan.

Apart from the three things dr. Erlina emphasized, she also added that regulations must begin to be synergized. In this case, all sectors must have a big contribution, like the system running during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

According to dr. Erlina, TB prevention will reach the elimination target more quickly if integrated systems are implemented. The system integration is an inter-sector collaboration effort, as stated in the Perpu, starting from the education sector, health service facilities, communities, and the mass media.

Furthermore, dr. Erlina described several main tasks and functions that should be the government’s focus in the role of TB elimination, which is divided into responsibilities for implementing policies from the central government and local governments. The central government is responsible for the policy on the implementation of tuberculosis control programs, strengthening resources, and mitigating psychosocial (psychological post-tuberculosis, ed ) and economic impacts.

“For the local government, because it has direct contact with the community, the main program is determining indicators, procuring prevention funds, implementing prevention programs, and most importantly, reporting,” concluded dr. Erlina Burhan.
