UNAIR NEWS – The 2025 Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (PDHI) Awards were held with grandeur on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Merlynn Park Hotel in Jakarta. The event, celebrating PDHI’s 72nd anniversary, welcomed around 200 guests who contributed to the evening’s festive atmosphere.
Dr M Munawaroh MM, Chairman of PB-PDHI, highlighted the importance of the PDHI Awards as a pioneering effort to honor veterinarians and animal health advocates. “This award is intended to encourage dedication across fields such as environmental conservation, zoonotic disease control, and livestock development,” he said.
Prof. Dr. Suwarno, a lecturer from Universitas Airlangga’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH UNAIR) and a member of the award’s judging panel, emphasized its motivational impact.
“The PDHI Awards inspire us, as both educators and practitioners, to continue making meaningful contributions to the nation,” he stated.
Pandemic contributions recognized
One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Prof Dr drh. Fedik A Rantam MS, a prominent lecturer at FKH UNAIR. This accolade was bestowed in recognition of his exceptional contributions to health sciences, particularly his instrumental role in developing the Merah Putih COVID-19 vaccine. This innovation marked a significant step forward in Indonesia’s battle against the global pandemic.
Beyond his vaccine development work, Prof. Rantam has made substantial contributions to national health and veterinary sciences. His groundbreaking research has had far-reaching impacts both within Indonesia and on the global stage. Furthermore, he has played an active role in zoonotic disease control programs, enhancing public health outcomes across the country.
Recognizing veterinary excellence
The awards night also celebrated veterinarians from various sectors, including government, private practice, and independent fields. These recognitions aim to inspire continued innovation and contributions in areas such as environmental health, livestock development, and community welfare.
