UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has achieved yet another milestone. The Berkala Ilmu Kesehatan Kulit dan Kelamin or the Periodical of Dermatology and Venereology (BIKKK) journal has officially been indexed in the Scopus database as of Tuesday (February 11, 2025). This achievement marks a significant step forward in enhancing the visibility and quality of scientific publications in dermatology, venereology, and aesthetics on a global scale.
Journey to recognition
According to Prof. Dr. Cita Rosita Sigit Prakoeswa, dr., SpDVE, SubspDAI, FINSDV, FAADV, MARS, Editor-in-Chief of BIKKK, this accomplishment is the result of the relentless efforts of the editorial board, along with strong institutional support. She acknowledged the critical role played by UNAIR’s Institute for Innovation, Journal Development, Publications, and Intellectual Property (LIPJPHKI) in guiding the journal toward this achievement.

“The support from LIPJPHKI, the Journal Consortium Unit and Folia Medica Indonesiana (UKJF), FK UNAIR, and RSUD Dr. Soetomo has been instrumental in helping BIKKK continuously improve its quality. The process involved multiple revisions based on feedback from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and internal evaluations,” she explained.
Prof. Prakoeswa further elaborated that after securing DOAJ recognition, BIKKK took the next step by elevating its publication standards to meet international requirements. “With guidance from the editorial team, LIPJPHKI, and UKJF, the journal successfully met Scopus’ indexing criteria. We ensured that every published article adheres to high scientific standards, aligns with ongoing advancements in the field, and has a broad academic impact,” she stated.
Quality assurance and future prospects
As a pioneering journal in dermatology, venereology, and aesthetics in Indonesia, Prof. Prakoeswa highlighted BIKKK’s substantial contribution to the field. “For over 30 years, this journal has consistently published editions every four months, covering a wide range of topics. With its inclusion in Scopus, BIKKK is evolving and now attracting submissions from external researchers—both domestic and international—solidifying its status as a vital academic reference in its domain,” she remarked.
Looking ahead, the BIKKK editorial team is committed to further improving the journal’s quality and expanding its impact within the academic community, both nationally and internationally. This success adds BIKKK to the growing list of UNAIR journals indexed in Scopus and serves as motivation for other academic journals within UNAIR to strive for higher publication standards.
