UNAIR NEWS – Taking glimpses of professional work is essential for university students. To provide the experience, the Development Economics Student Association (HIMA EP) of UNAIR held a webinar on “Finalyst: Get Closer with Financial Analyst” on Saturday, July 23, 2022.
Putra Adi Tri Pamungkas, a Financial Analyst and Planning at BCA Finance, was featured as the guest speaker. In the beginning, Putra explained the difference between finance and accounting, which are frequently misunderstood as the same thing. Viewed from their roles, the two hold different functions.
“The main role of finance is managing the finance of an organization, using financial ratio and analysis, allocating funds, and analyzing the financial needs of the organization. While accounting [division] process and record business transactions, verify to the related units and reports the tax,” he said.
Putra explained more about financial analysis and planning (FAP) to the audience. “FAP helps to understand the basic principles of finance, analyze the movement of financial performance, and evaluate financial planning and budgets,” he said.
He further expanded the details on a company’s FAP. First, budgeting or arranging, consolidating and distributing the company’s financial budget. Second, monitoring the budget and the realizations.
Third, reporting or summarizing information, concept, or solutions into a written business report using systematic and structured language. Fourth, benchmarking or the skill of comparing the financial strategy and performances of other companies in a similar field.
Putra continued explaining the tasks of FAP, including the data collection, managing information and data result analysis, providing solutions, and reporting it. Some of the required skills to build a career in FAP are corresponding background, analysis skills, problem-solving, and public speaking.
He also shared the required tools that must be learned by students who are interested in working in FAP fields, such as Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Power BI, Tableau, etc. (*)
