UNAIR NEWS – Pollution doesn’t only come in the form of solid waste or industrial by-products discharged into water bodies. It also includes thermal waste—high-temperature discharge from power plants and industrial facilities—which can drastically raise water temperatures in a short time.

Environmental Impacts:

  1. Alters water quality parameters
  2. Causes death of aquatic life
  3. Disrupts aquatic food chains
  4. Reduces predator populations
  5. Destabilizes ecosystems

Effective Solutions:
Enforce strict regulatory monitoring to prevent violations in thermal waste treatment. This includes adhering to regulations such as Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 6 of 2021, which outlines procedures and requirements for managing hazardous and toxic waste, including power plant waste.
