UNAIR NEWS – As part of its commitment to becoming a World Class University, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) frequently hosts international students from various countries. To welcome and brief these students, whether visiting or studying at UNAIR, the Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) organized the International Student Reception 2024.

The reception was held at Garuda Mukti Hall on the 5th floor of the Management Office Building, MERR-C Campus, Universitas Airlangga, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. The event was attended by UNAIR’s Vice-Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto DEA DVM. He expressed his pride in the international students who chose to study at UNAIR.

“Today marks the beginning of an exciting journey, not just for the international students who have come to study at UNAIR, but also for us as a university. I warmly welcome you all and look forward to the diverse contributions and academic achievements you will bring to UNAIR,” he said.

As a part of the orientation, Nuzul Qur’aniati, Ph.D., a lecturer from the UNAIR Faculty of Nursing, presented on the ethics of academic integrity. She emphasized that academic integrity is founded on six core values: Honesty, Trust, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility, and Courage.

Nuzul also highlighted various factors lead to breaches in academic integrity, such as poor time management, high pressure, stress, and lack of motivation. To combat these issues, she provided several strategies and solutions.

“While there is no one-size-fits-all approach to enhancing integrity, taking simple steps can significantly improve it. These include understanding the importance of academic integrity culture to achieve our goals and mission and striving to maintain consistency in academic endeavors,” she explained.

The event was attended by dozens of international students from countries including Canada, China, Malaysia, India, Cambodia, Thailand, and more. These students are participants in various international programs at UNAIR, such as the AMERTA Inbound Exchange Program, AIRVENTURE, and others.

In addition to welcoming the students, the event also served as a platform for international students to broaden their networks and engage in cultural exchange. The UNAIR student organizations presented various Indonesian cultural performances, including the Saman Ratoh Jaroe dance and Tapak Suci martial arts demonstration.

Hani, a student from Malaysia, shared her enthusiasm for studying at UNAIR. “This is my third visit to Surabaya and my first time at UNAIR. I am thrilled to be here again because Surabaya gives me a feeling of being at home,” she said.
