With most intellectual property rights in Stem Cell field, UNAIR Vocational Lecturer breaks MURI Record

Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Dr Purwati dr SpPD K PTI FINASIM received an appreciation from the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) record as the recipient with most Intellectual Property Rights (HKI) in Stem Cell field.

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) lecturer Dr Purwati dr SpPD K PTI FINASIM received an appreciation from the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) as the recipient with most Intellectual Property Rights (HKI) in the field of Stem Cells.

The award was presented by the founder of MURI, Jaya Suprana, to Doctor Purwati in Galeri MURI, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

Doctor Pur is recorded to have obtained many copyrights and patents from September 2018 to October 2019. In that one year, the lecturer and the Head of the UNAIR Stem Cell Research and Development Center has four independent patents, one joint patent, one simple patent, and three independent copyrights.

The lecturer from Jombang is known to have been researching stem cells since 2008. “I find it interesting, because it is a new technology from biomedical therapy in the medical field, so the challenge is quite big to develop,” she said.

Proof of God’s oneness

For Dr. Purwati, the concept of stem cells shows the oneness of Allah SWT, as everything starts from the One and the Beginning. “If we pay attention, the highest stem cell hierarchy is totipotent, proliferating and differentiating into its descendants. In the end, it forms billions of cells in the form of tissues and organs in a whole body. These stem cells have a special ability to renew or regenerate themselves (self regenerate) and reproduce according to their line,” she explained.

Stem Cells in Indonesia

According to her, the quality of research development and implementation of stem cells in Indonesia is not less superior than the other countries’. “In addition to being known through various international and national publications, it can also be known through the determination of IPR,” she explained.

The development of stem cells in Indonesia cannot be separated from the research and development centers that continue to carry out stem cell research and modifications and also seek to build networks with national and international institutions.

In the future, Doctor Purwati will continue research and development on innovation and utilization of stem cells. “ InsyaAllah, we will combine hybrid engineering, nanotechnology and stem cells to become the next generation of stem cells,” she explained

Host in own land

Doctor Pur hopes that the research results, which have been recognized as intellectual property, will be able to provide the most benefit. “Hopefully, it can provide benefits in the world of health both for patients and doctors and health facilities that provide services, and Stem Cell services could be the hosts in our own land,” she said.
