UNAIR NEWS – The winner of the Outstanding Student Election (PILMAPRES) at Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga in 2017, Muhammad Reza A was anxious for days after following the selection process. He hoped to repeat his success at university level, and compete at national level.
Reza’s dream came true. The man born in Blitar March 29, 1996 will represent FK UNAIR to compete in university level PILMAPRES event in the near future.
It was his second winning. The first winning was for the PILMAPRES university level for the third semester of 2016.
“In accordance with the provisions of DIKTI at that time, who went to the national level was the winner PILMAPRES UNAIR semester V,” he said.
Since the second semester, Reza has been active in various scientific writing competitions, both nationally and internationally. With his experience, Reza is often invited to be a speaker in various scientific writing events.
“I often participated in competitions in my first semesters. Almost every week I joined them, and it was tiring, “he said.
Reza is a fifth semester student of Medicine FK UNAIR with a myriad of achievements. Some of his achievements include winning Best Article at 14th Indonesia International (bio) Medical Student Congress, first winner of scientific writing contest for five times, and having a certificate from Training of Trainer (TOT) Professional and Research Exchange Training in Taiwan.
Opportunity to participate in various competitions domestic and abroad was something he never expected before. This opportunity was part of the scholarship privilege he got. Through the scholarship, Reza can seize the opportunity to gain a lot of experiences.
Being a doctor was his goal since high school, although his dream did not get blessing from both of his parents.
“Medical school is known to be expensive, my parents did not support me because of financial factors, “he explained.
Financial factors made Reza’s parents thought that it was impossible to finance their son’s study as they are only a truck driver and chicken breeder.
The desire to study in medical faculty was also scorned by his big family in Kunir Village, Wonodadi sub-district, Blitar. But that did not make him give up. Reza persisted in maintaining his dream and tried to find a way out. As a result, Reza managed to get a scholarship from an oil company from Thailand.
“I am grateful because with this scholarship, I can ease the burden of my parents,” he said.
After getting a scholarship and winning in various competition, his parents gradually understood.
“My parents are no longer skeptical as they used to be, now they can accept and be proud,” he added.
Reza harbored the desire one day he can take his parents to come to Surabaya. “I really want my mother to come to Surabaya. I want to show the campus where I am studying. This victory is for them, “said Reza.
