UNAIR Student Invited by Google

UNAIR NEWS – Master program of Occupational Health and Safety of Faculty of Public Health Universitas Airlangga should be proud. One of its students Ahadin Syarifudin Fahmi Adimara was selected as one of the local guides invited to Google’s office in Mountain View, California, United States to attend the Local Guides Summit 2017.

He was appreciated by Google as he promotes tourist destinations in Indonesia in Google Maps. In California, he was with other Top 150 Contributing Local Guides from 62 countries.

2017 is the second year of Local Guides Summit. “Based on data from the committee, this year 150 selected participants of Local Guides Summit 2017 have competed among 50 million Local Guides from around the world. I never imagined would reach this point, ” said Fahmi who is a graduate of Pondok Pesantren MBI Amanatul Ummah Pacet Mojokerto.

Luiz André Barroso, Vice President of Engineering on Google Maps said in his speech, Local Guides Summit is a tribute for the efforts and contributions of Local Guides in their respective regions. In his speech he discussed ways Local Guides can do in helping Google Maps users and regional communities.

In California, all participants were invited to go around Google headquarters. They were taught how to make a good photowalk and consulted with some of the core team of Google apps, like Google Maps, Google Mail, Google My Bussines, Google Street View and Google Earth.

Achievement

Fahmi’s skill at photography cannot be questioned. Several times his profile and his work were featured on several Google Maps platforms as one of the Inspiring Local Guides. As a reward, his instaccount @ fahmiadimara is followed by the official @GoogleMaps account.

One of Fahmi’s photography portfolio was used as the official background on Google Local Guides page for a full year in 2016. Some of his photographs are also used by Google Local Guides as a cover of Local Guides presentations around the world.

Furthermore, Fahmi also became one of the top 100 trusted Google Street View professionals in Indonesia. His job is to contribute real time photos with in 360 ​​mode to Google Maps.

Fahmi does not only study in FKM UNAIR, he also mobilizes youth community in Surabaya in photography field. In addition, he also became the coordinator and activist of Local Guides community Surabaya, Sidoarjo, East Java, and Indonesia.

Although the field of health and photography are two different things, Fahmi admitted that his knowledge from college is very useful in his career. According to him, college is not only to gain knowledge, but more importantly to bring benefits for people around and to make achievements.

The students of FKM UNAIR admitted that he never stops making achievements. He still has a wish to continue his education abroad to support his career in photography.

“For me, through the opportunity of Local Guides and Street View Trusted Photographer I can introduce Indonesia and be known globally,” said Fahmi who will be involved next week in expedition with world-class photographer and Qatar Airways Ambassador from Dubai, Herosdem.

To the students, Fahmi shared his tips to make achievements at college. “Every choice has its consequences, such as when I chose to go to college, run a business, and join organizations. The important thing is how to be committed to the top priority and always be responsible for the choices taken, “he added. (*)
