UNAIR NEWS – College education provides many opportunities, including internship experience. Savira Nur Aisyah, a fourth-year International Relations student at Universitas Airlangga, took her opportunity for internship experience at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Bucharest, Romania.

Savira was not the only UNAIR International Relations student. Alaina Feyza was also doing her internship there. She shared her experiences when the KBRI appointed her to represent the embassy in the Brasov Multicultural Day. The annual festival aims to promote dialogues and intercultural collaborations and eradicate the stereotypes and biases in the local communities in Brașov, Romania.

The event featured over a hundred representatives from 21 countries across four continents on October 9, 2022, at the Council Square Brașov. The participating countries are India, Philippines, Ukraine, Columbia, Moldova, Dominican Republic, Turkey, Peru, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, China, Iran, Egypt, South Korea, Vietnam, Venezuela, Ecuador, Cuba, Japan, and Indonesia.

Indonesia took part by presenting the Bahalai traditional dance from Central Kalimantan and a tenant booth to promote various exquisite destinations and local wisdom.

She also got covered by the Indonesian Bucharest media. Indonesia’s booth keepers were dressed in traditional clothes and batik. They drew visitors’ attention to take pictures with them. The booth also displayed some traditional properties such as udeng bali, mahkota rumbai, peci songkok, bulung teleng, garuda statue, and angklung.

The visitors’ enthusiasm toward Indonesia’s booth was amazing. People made videos, and asked how to play the angklung, and how to get the musical instrument. The KBRI even shared the angklung for free as a cultural investment and promotion.

Savira believed that interning at the KBRI improved her way of thinking. She said, “To survive in a place far from home helps improve my mentality. Many things are broader than we have ever imagined before.”

“I believe many UNAIR students are far better than me. They might’ve joined student exchange, international events, etc. But opportunity is everywhere. Living abroad is on my wish list, meaning it’s a start to open the next doors,” she ended.
