15 Foreign Students Participate in Independence Day Games at UNAIR Language Center

UNAIR NEWS – Celebrating 73rd Anniversary of Indonesia, various activities were held by Universitas Airlangga academic community. Games that strengthen teamwork were held, not only by students, but also attended by lecturers and employees.

UNAIR Language Center also celebrated the Independence Day by inviting foreign students at UNAIR. There were 15 foreign students participated in games with employees and lecturers at UNAIR language center on Thursday, August 16. The activity was also held to introduce Indonesian culture to them.

Training and Test Coordinator, UNAIR Language Center Imroatul Muhsinah., S.S., M.Pd, stated that the activity was aimed to introduce Indonesian tradition to foreign students, especially those who are learning Indonesian at UNAIR Language Center.

Muhsinah elaborated the games which were held such as eating crisps, tempeh on race, inserting nails into bottles, and inserting rubber bands into a straw. At UNAIR, the foreign students are of master’s degree and doctoral degree programs such as Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).

The 15 foreign students are from Myanmar, Zimbabwe and Palestine. Most of them study at UNAIR through Developing Country Partnership (KMB) scholarship from the Indonesian government.

Meanwhile, one participant from Palestine, Ihsan Idrees, won first place in tempeh race. The S2 student of International Relations FISIP UNAIR looked very enthusiastic about the game.

Ihsan expressed her excitement when she joined the game. Although it was new for her, she seemed to really enjoy the various game held.

“I am very happy to participate in this competition. I like to join competitions. If there are another ones next year, I’d like to join, ” she said.

“Actually I want to join crisps eating games. That’s a good competition, but because I’m fasting so I can’t join. I won the first place in tempeh race, ” she added. (*)
