UNAIR NEWS – Prof Dr Bambang Purwanto dr MKes was officially inaugurated as a professor on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. He officially assumed the new title and responsibility as Professor of Physiology at Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga.

Prof. Bambang is listed as 121st active FK Professor, 555th Professor of UNAIR, and 263rd Professor of UNAIR as a State University-Legal Entity (PTN-BH).

During the inauguration ceremony at the Garuda Mukti Hall, Prof. Bambang delivered an oration entitled Interpreting God’s Verses in Skeletal Muscle Physiology. Prof. Bambang said that the human muscle has a vital task even though it only has two tasks.

The two tasks of these muscles are to contract and stretch. Meanwhile, the contraction and stretching process require energy in the form of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP).

The process of using and recharging energy in the muscles is like a cycle. Based on the study of Prof. Bambang in the last ten years, it is impossible for human muscles to recharge their energy before energy stores are split.

“So when we pray, we must also apply it to become more balanced as human beings. If we want our energy to increase, then use it, use it, and use it,” said the lecturer, who has published 27 Scopus indexed scientific publications.

The proven God’s verses with the physiology of skeletal muscles is also Prof. Bambang stated in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. One of the causes of diabetes mellitus is glucose that fails to enter the muscles as nutrition. So, doctors will generally inject insulin as a trigger for glucose to enter the cells.

“But recently, this method has been less effective. We conducted research and found that the answer to this problem lies in the muscles themselves,” said the man born on August 28, 1980.

When the muscles contract, the dependence on insulin is overcome. Similarly, when the muscles are stretched, they can solve the energy deficiency problem by themselves.

“This is what we understand as a message from God. That let us return the rights of every organ of the body so that we become human beings who are good at being grateful,” he explained.

During the inauguration, Prof. Bambang expressed his gratitude to all parties who supported him, including her parents.

“Two things that I believe in every step of the way: do not stray from the grace of God and always ask for parents’ blessing. I believe that this new path and responsibility comes from God and the unceasing prayers of my parents,” he said.

Besides Prof. Bambang, UNAIR also inaugurated three other new professors. They are Prof. Dr. Agung Krismariono drg. MKes SpPerioK from the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Prof. Dr. Fatmawati SSi MSi from the Faculty of Science and Technology, and Prof. Dr. Ir Annis Catur Adi MSi from the Faculty of Public Health. (*)
