UNAIR NEWS – Meilisa Dwi Ervinda, Indonesian Language and Literature student of Universitas Airlangga Faculty of Humanities (FIB), was selected as the delegation in the XIV International Symposium of the World Indonesian Students Associations (PPI). The event was held in Kemdikbudristek Building, Jakarta, from Monday to Friday, August 22-26, 2022.
The symposium was a part of the events from the 100th anniversary of the PPI World, exploring the role of Indonesian students post-COVID-19 for the Awakening of Indonesia and the Nation’s Development.
Meilisa was invited to the symposium as the 2021-2022 Ambassador of the PPI World Overseas Festival (FELARI).
“FELARI is one of World PPI’s directorates. During the closing of ambassador awarding, I got the international symposium invitation from the World PPI coordinator,” she stated.
The event was attended by some ministers of Indonesia, such as the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim; Minister of Religious Affairs H Yaqut Cholil Qoumas; Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD; and Minister of State Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir.
The five ministers emphasized Indonesia’s recovery post-pandemic, one of them is through creative economy for accelerating the economic recovery in Indonesia.
Mei received a lot of benefits thanks to the event. She had built a network with both Indonesian and foreign students and got information on study abroad scholarships.
“Getting motivated is the most important thing for me. If we want to study abroad, we have had the learning preparations in mind,” she said.
In the end, Mei suggested students seek more information on the competition, conference, etc., which aligns with their interests. Be courageous to try something new. “Trying and failing is better than never trying at all,” she said.
