UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga students keep making wonderful achievements. This time, Reyhan Agung Putra Wicaksono, Ilham Baskoro, Rossa Handini, Ahmad Jabir Hajjan, and Muhammad Farhan won second place in the 2022 Surabaya Short Movie.
The competition was held by the Government of Surabaya and the Department of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism of Surabaya.
Reyhan and his team competed against 72 competitors. “There were 50 scripts that passed the first stage. The top 10 finalists were further selected in the second selection for the best scripts and movie production,” Reyhan said.
Their idea was to remap the spices route in Surabaya. The movie plot started with Kemala, a sailor’s daughter, who thinks her father’s work for a living is a lowly job. Kemala’s concern was answered through her dream, which showed the magnificent spices route in Surabaya. She finally came to understand the nature of a sailor.
The movie also portrayed the Surabaya sea and its harbor, which collect various acculturation to the city, like Chinatown and barongsai (lion dance).
“We also put Surabaya’s iconic cultures in Remo dance and ludruk in the movie, which explains the movie title, Alterasi (alteration). Alterasi means diversity,” Reyhan said.
Ilham Baskoro, the movie producer, explained that they faced multiple challenges during the making, from the short length of production with the final exam week, putting their heads together, to the production cost. However, the challenges did not discourage their team.
Reyhan and Ilham hoped, their fellow students will also maintain their creativity to make something, not just enjoy something. Technology should encourage the young generations to make innovative contributions.
