UNAIR NEWS – For the past decades, History studies have become more popular among youngsters, from the history group, history education content, and many more. Mostly, historians or history graduates pursue careers in various professional fields, as they have vast knowledge and are deemed literature-savvy.
Graduates with professional careers and wonderful achievements highly support the program’s growth. The Faculty of Humanities (FIB) Universitas Airlangga has achieved a wonderful achievement. Dr. Sarkawi B Husain SS M Hum Head of the History Program of FIB UNAIR said that the program has gained “Excellent” accreditation from the Board of National Accreditation for Higher Education (BAN-PT) and international accreditation from the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) in 2022.
“FIBAA is a Europe institution with an international orientation for quality assurance and development in higher education. The accreditations were gained together with four other programs in FIB,” he said.
Furthermore, the History program also contributes to the Kampus Merdeka competition of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. Two programs at UNAIR received the honor; History and Aquaculture.
The History program frequently hosted international guests. The recent international collaborations were with top universities in QS 100, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Malaya.
Besides the program, the lecturers continuously made bright achievements within government institutions, promoting the program to gain recognition.
Dr. Sarkawi stated that prospects for History graduates are across various fields, including government institutions, the military, banking, and manufacturing. Some alumni also received the Indonesia Endowment Funds for Education (LPDP) and other international scholarships to pursue their studies.
“I believe that the key lies in the alumni and students who show their merit, competing against other field alumni,” he said.
Apart from the conventional thesis, the program also offers creative theses. Students can choose one of eight alternatives, like making a documentary movie or writing a historical novel.
“I want to say that History is not the past. It explains what had happened before. Therefore, learning history is all about learning the root of the problems. It is fascinating that we get to explore various perspectives,” he said.
