UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held an inauguration and veterinarian’s oath-taking ceremony at the Airlangga Convention Center, MERR (C) Campus UNAIR, on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. UNAIR inaugurated 118 new vets in the 168th inauguration.

The Dean of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Mirni Lamid, drh, MP, opened the event and joined by Prof. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto DEA DVM, the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan SE MSi MFin, the Vice-Rector for Human Resources; the management and administrative staff of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UNAIR; and the General Chairman of the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI).

Prof. Mirni congratulated the newly inaugurated vets in her welcoming speech. This achievement is not the end of the journey, instead, it is a new beginning to serving the community.

“Your battle hasn’t ended yet. Instead, it’s just the beginning. The real battle starts once you contribute to the community,” she said.

Though the education program is over, the new vets must take full responsibility for health workers. The Dean further reminded them always to maintain the professional code of ethics and uphold humanity in serving the community.

“Adhere to the professional veterinary code of ethics. Uphold humanity according to the oath you’ve taken. Be honest, disciplined, and professional so that in the future, you will reap goodness from those around you,” she said.

In line with Prof. Mirni’s statement, Prof. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto DEA DVM, the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, called the vets to uphold veterinary medical ethics.

A vet is an essential part of veterinary medicine, as it ensures the community’s survival as a whole.

“We take an essential role in the community, who are responsible for ensuring the environment and public health as a whole,” Prof. Bambang said.

Veterinarians have full responsibilities in community service and implementing professional codes of ethics.

“Once you take the oath, there’s a responsibility to carry. You have to implement the codes of ethics as written in the oath,” he said.
