UNAIR NEWS – Alumni of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continue to show their excellence, not only nationally but also on the international stage. Annida Aqilla Putri, an alumna Faculty of Law (FH) UNAIR, is one of them. Recently, the woman known better as Annida graduated from one of the oldest campuses in the Netherlands, Utrecht University. Annida managed to graduate “with honor” (cum laude).
Started from an exchange
Since her undergraduate study, Annida has been an active student both academically and non-academically. In 2019, for example, Annida had the opportunity to take part in a student exchange program at Leiden University, the Netherlands. “In 2019 I had the opportunity to take part in an exchange in Leiden, the Netherlands for one semester,” she said, Tuesday, Dec 26, 2023.
The experience of participating in a student exchange, said Annida, motivated her to continue her education abroad. Moreover, she has experienced a different culture and education system even in just one semester. “So, I already know more or less about the experience of studying abroad and I enjoyed it immensely. After that, I looked for information on how to study there,” she said.
Get a scholarship
Experience, goals, and a willingness to take advantage of existing opportunities led Annida to earn a scholarship at Utrecht University. After graduating from FH UNAIR in 2021, she gathered as much information as possible to continue her master’s study abroad. “So I applied for this scholarship after I graduated in 2021. I had an internship initially, then sought the information, and when I applied for the scholarship, thank God, I was accepted as a recipient,” she said.
Annida received the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship (UES) – Law, Economics, Governance International Talent Scholarship. UES is a direct scholarship from Utrecht University that offers opportunities for talented prospective students. Annida had to compete with other prospective students from various countries to qualify.
Study human rights
Annida took a legal research program for her master’s study. She chose it because according to her, with research she can see various social issues and problems in a broader sense from a legal perspective. She can also channel her attention to issues that have been her focus through legal research.
Since S1, Annida has paid attention to issues surrounding human rights. “The program I took in general was Legal Research. In the second year, I was only able to take a specialization in human rights because it was a concern there. I took it because I can also interact with the community. Furthermore, human rights can also be explored further,” she explained.
Annida’s decision to write a thesis on human rights, which has long been her concern, is considered the right one. She was able to achieve cum laude thanks to her thesis research. Moreover, thanks to her dedication to human rights, she also had the opportunity to gain an internship and become a permanent employee at one of the NGOs (Non-Governmental Organization) in the field of human rights in the Netherlands.
