UNAIR NEWS – SAGA EV-OS, the electric motorcycle of the Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), has showcased its prowess. The innovation that previously won the PLN ICE 2023 was featured in the 2024 Intellectual Property Right Festival held on Thursday, Feb 29, 2024.
Held at the Airlangga Sharia & Entrepreneurship Education Center (ASEEC) Tower, SAGA EV-OS stood out as the icon at the FTMM booth. Positioned directly in front of the booth, SAGA EV-OS attracted the attention of participants of the event.
The name SAGA is in line with the concept they embrace for the motorcycle, Sport Ability in Green Advantage. Meanwhile, the name EV-OS is from the innovating team, which stands for Electric Vehicle in Study.
The Journey of SAGA EV-OS
Representing the team, Body, and Frame Drafter Staff Vicho Zahfal shared that SAGA EV-OS has been developed over three generations, with them being the third generation.
“The design comes from the generation before us; we are the third generation. So, the competition was followed by the first and the second generation,” explained Vicho during an interview on the same day.
Adding to Vicho’s response, Database Engineering Drafter Staff Reza Arifin mentioned that the idea of creating SAGA EV-OS originated from FTMM students. However, they required guidance from a faculty advisor to facilitate the process.
“The team consists entirely of FTMM students. However, in the EV-OS team, there is a faculty advisor to provide guidance,” he clarified.
For their hard work, the EV-OS team now deserves to feel proud of their dedication. This is evident not only from the achievements they have attained but also from the evidence of good performance through various measurements.
“The battery specifications are 11 kW, and it has a range of 118 km. So, the battery uses from 100 to 0 is that distance, with a top speed of 170 km per hour, and the dyno torque reaches around 40 Nm. Yesterday, in the test drive, we achieved that,” added Vicho.
The EV-OS team is making efforts to obtain ownership of the intellectual property they have created. Vicho stated that the effort is still in progress and not yet completed.
“The latest information I obtained is that the submission has been made in terms of design, model, and name, but the letter has not yet been issued. It’s still in progress,” concluded Vicho. (*)
