UNAIR NEWS – The Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs (DPKKA) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) hosted another insightful webinar titled ‘Get Your Master’s Degree in Australia: Info Session with Counsellor AU IDP East Surabaya’ on Thursday, March 6, 2025. The virtual event drew over 200 participants from various faculties and featured guest speakers Firda K and Aulia Anis, both education counselors from IDP Education specializing in Australian higher education.

Anis provided a comprehensive overview of the essential aspects of planning for postgraduate studies in Australia. She emphasized the importance of selecting the right university, meeting admission requirements, and preparing for the IELTS exam. She noted that Australian universities follow a merit-based selection system, where institutions prioritize GPA and undergraduate academic records. “Academic preparation and language proficiency are the key factors for succeeding in international studies. Additionally, numerous scholarships, such as the Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS), are available for Indonesian students,” Anis explained.

Anis outlined five critical documents required for the application process to Australian universities. First, a degree certificate and academic transcript, typically available in both Indonesian and English. Second, a Curriculum Vitae (CV) that highlights not only work experience but also extracurricular activities that strengthen a candidate’s application, particularly for recent graduates.

The third essential document is a passport, which is mandatory for administrative purposes. Fourth, a personal statement, which can enhance an application even if the applicant’s GPA is not exceptionally high. Lastly, an IELTS test report form, which serves as proof of English language proficiency. “Since all coursework, assignments, and presentations in Australia are conducted in English, universities require assurance that students can adapt effectively,” she elaborated.

Furthermore, Anis discussed strategies for securing a Letter of Offer (LOE) and scholarships. She recommended that students apply for scholarships like LPDP first before proceeding with IDP to obtain an LOE. Conversely, students who prefer to secure an LOE first can rely on IDP’s assistance in handling their university applications. “With IDP’s guidance, students can navigate the application process smoothly and focus on their study preparations,” she added.

Once students obtain their LOE and secure funding, they can move on to the visa application process with IDP’s support. This ensures that all required documentation is properly completed before their departure to Australia.
