UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has once again earned international recognition, with several of its scientists named among the World’s Top 2% Researchers. The ranking, released by Stanford University in partnership with Elsevier, affirms UNAIR’s standing as a leading research institution consistently making an impact on the global academic stage.
The UNAIR scholars listed this year include Prof. Ferry Efendi, Prof. Nursalam, Prof. Iman Harymawan, Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur, Prof. Santi Martini, Prof. Ratna Dwi Wulandari, and Prof. Mustofa Helmi Effendi.
Reflecting strong research culture
Prof. Ferry Efendi, SKep, Ns, MSc, PhD, one of the awardees and Chair of UNAIR’s Institute for Journal Development, Publications, and Intellectual Property Rights(LPJPHKI), emphasized that the recognition reflects more than individual success. He described it as the result of UNAIR’s supportive environment for research and scholarly publications.
“This achievement reflects Universitas Airlangga’s effort to build a research and publication ecosystem that is not only impactful but also sustainable,” Prof. Efendi said.
Research impact as benchmark
The ranking is based on citation impact, meaning UNAIR researchers’ work has gained broad recognition and practical application worldwide. Among them is Prof. Efendi’s research on the health of Indonesian migrant workers, which has identified key challenges and proposed inclusive policy recommendations.
“About 24 of my studies have been cited by the World Health Organization (WHO) or other global entities and have shaped policy recommendations,” he explained. This, he noted, illustrates how academic research can drive real-world change.
Message for Academic Community
Offering advice to young scholars, Prof. Efendi underscored the importance of three values: perseverance, collaboration, and lifelong learning. “In my view, intelligence comes second. What truly defines and directs our achievements is dedication, hard work, and discipline,” he said.
This international recognition serves as inspiration for the entire UNAIR academic community to continue producing world-class research and delivering practical solutions to both national and global challenges.
