UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has officially sent off two of its robotics teams to compete at the national level in the 2025 Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI). The two teams, Akasa Gandiwa in the Racing Plane division and Dwi Cakra in the Technology Development division, were released in a ceremony held at the FTMM Workshop, MERR-C Campus.
UNAIR commitment to driving innovation
The qualification of both teams was confirmed through Letter No. 3885/B2/DT.01.02/2025, issued on October 4, 2025, by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs, under the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. Earlier, FTMM had fielded four robotics teams in the regional selection held from September 29 to October 2, 2025, at the TNI AU Raci Aeromodelling Field in Pasuruan and the UNAIR Campus C workshop.

Two other teams, Akasena in the Fixed Wing division and Tesserax in the Technology Development division, were unable to advance due to technical issues. Meanwhile, Muhammad Alvarezi Usamah, leader of the Akasa Gandiwa team and a 2023 student of Building Construction Engineering Technology (TRKB), said his team had been preparing since March 2025. He reported that the regional qualification round went smoothly without major obstacles.
“Our preparation this year was much more thorough than before. We achieved a successful takeoff and completed the flight mission in just 16 seconds, which is quite fast,” Usamah said.
Ahead of the national competition, the Akasa Gandiwa team plans to enhance performance by modifying several electrical components of their aircraft.
Strong support from UNAIR leaderships
At the send-off ceremony, Prof. Dr. Retna Apsari, M.Si., Dean of FTMM UNAIR, officially released the Airlangga Robotics Community (KOMBO UA) teams competing in the 2025 KRTI. The event took place on Thursday (October 9, 2025) at the FTMM workshop. “Good luck and give your best effort. We can do this!” Prof. Apsari encouraged the teams during her remarks.
The 2025 Indonesian Flying Robot Contest will be held from October 16 to 21, 2025, at Universitas Andalas in Padang, West Sumatra, with events taking place at Sutan Sjahrir Airfield.
Although FTMM UNAIR is only five years old, the faculty continues to make achievements at both the national and international levels. Through this competition, the Akasa Gandiwa and Dwi Cakra teams hope to bring distinction and pride to Universitas Airlangga on the national stage.
